Eliza Bansal from Lehragaga in Sangrur district secured the first rank in the AIIMS examination, the result of which was declared on Monday. Eliza secured 100 percentile (rounded off) in biology and physics each, while she scored 99.94 percentile in chemistry and 97.87 percentile in general knowledge. Supreme Court Makes Exception For 8 Government Colleges, Allows Them To Enroll 800 Students For MBBS, BDS. The Supreme Court today made an exception by allowing eight government medical colleges in three states, which were barred by the Centre for certain deficiencies, to enroll 800 students in MBBS and BDS courses for academic year 2018-19. Court directs AIIMS to pay Rs 50,000 to MBBS aspirant who was not allowed to give exam. On HRD ministry's direction, IIT board releases extended merit list; 31,980 candidates qualify in all. As many as 31,980 candidates have cleared the JEE-Advanced exam with the IIT's Joint Admission Board (JAB) issuing an extended merit list following directions from the HRD ministry. JEE Advanced 2018: Number of successful aspirants at seven-year low as IITs shed grace marks. As results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced were announced Sunday, the number of candidates who cleared the test this year for admission to the IITs is the lowest in seven years. Of the 1.55 lakh aspirants who appeared for the JEE, 18,138 students cleared the cut-off, which is 1.6 times the number of seats on offer, according to IIT-Kanpur. In 2017, more than 51,000 students had cleared the examination.
Exam reforms: UGC sets up panel, invites suggestions. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is looking at ways to further improve the examination system followed by higher education institutions across the country. It has set up a dedicated panel for the mission and has invited suggestions from all stakeholders, including varsity and college teachers, officials as well as students. In a notice issued on Thursday, UGC has called for specific suggestions in 150 words to be sent to it by June 22 for the panel to consider them. (HT)
