CBSE to conduct NEET for admission into medical courses on May 7. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission into medical courses on May 7. CBSE conducts the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) exam and on the basis of it the students are chosen for admission to various colleges. Earlier, it had been decided that candidates could appear in the NEET thrice till they are 25 years old. (Zee News)

IIM Bangalore's EPGP course ranked among top 50 in Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2017. IIM Bangalore on Tuesday said its one-year full time Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) has been ranked among the top 50 in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2017. IIMB's programme has shot up 13 spots to be placed at No 49 in the FT ranking, it said. The other management schools in the top 50 ranking list released on Monday include INSEAD, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Harvard Business School, MIT: Sloan, University of California at Berkeley: Haas. Nursery admissions: Neighbourhood norm took away private schools rights, says HC. The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the AAP government whether it had done geographical mapping of the number of schools in a given area before directing private schools to admit kids in nursery on the basis of neighbourhood criteria. “Did you (Delhi government’s education department) conduct a survey mapping of the number of schools in a locality before coming out with this (neighbourhood norm) order,” Justice Manmohan asked. The court, however, by way of an interim order had allowed the parents to fill up the application forms for the various schools based on the criteria set by them as well as the Delhi government. (Indian Express)

Indian students studying in the United States are concerned about their future, after a tweet suggested that US President Donald Trump’s administration would cancel the Optional Practical Training Extension for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) Students (STEM OPT). However, a post shared by the US Department of Home Security said that while STEM will not be discontinued, it will be granted only if a designated school official (DSO) can recommend the extension of the student’s visa. CBSE revises board exam dates for eight subjects of Class 10 and Class 12. Examination dates for three class X subjects and five class XII subjects to be conducted by the CBSE has been revised. The dates have been rescheduled either due to overlapping of exams with the language subjects or to give adequate gap for preparation between two exams. The class X exam for the subjects Tamil and Gurung have been rescheduled from March 10 and 23 to March 18 and March 10 respectively, while the NCC exam has been shifted to March 23 from the earlier date of March 15. In the last few years, the number of Indian students goinh for higher studies in the US and the UK have considerably decreased owing to the political changes in the two countries fearing of adverse impact on their education. In the recent times, India's High Commissioner to the UK, YK Sinha, has termed the problem in obtaining visa as the main reason behind the massive fall of Indian students enrollment in the UK. IIM Bill 2017: Approved by cabinet, students will now get degrees instead of diplomas. The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Indian Institute of Management Bill, 2017, granting them complete autonomy. Under the Bill, the IIMs would be declared as institutions of national importance and provided statutory powers. After getting an approval from the law ministry, the human resource development (HRD) ministry may place the proposed draft of the Bill in the upcoming budget session of the parliament. Till now, only 20 premier institutes give post graduate diplomas to the students. The Bill enables the IIMs to award degrees instead of diplomas. (India Today)

After 13 years, JNU hikes entrance examination fee by 27%. JNU aspirants will now have to shell out more money for appearing for the varsity's entrance examination as the fees for it have been increased by 27 per cent from the upcoming academic session. Earlier, the application fees for BA programme was Rs 420 and for choosing one and additional programmes was Rs 630 and 800 respectively. Now, the same has been hiked upto Rs 530, Rs 800 and Rs 1,000. Similarly, the fees for MPhil, PhD, MTech, MSc, MCA and MA programmes, which were Rs 300 have now been increased to Rs 400. (TOI)

Several globally acclaimed and one of the best universities such as Harvard, MIT, Stanford University, University of Edinburgh, provide online courses for aspirants across the world. 7000 Maharashtra schools served closure notice due to non-compliance of RTE norms. The National Independent School Alliance (NISA) has asked the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry to ease the strict norms of Right to Education (RTE) for budget private schools. It has been noticed that many budget private schools are shutting down, and have even received threats from respective state Education Department for not implementing the RTE norms. The NISA has compiled a list of schools that have closed down, number of schools that have received a closure notice, and schools that have been threatened, across 12 states. (DNA)

India astonishes University of Edinburgh from participating in online Philosophy and Football courses. The massive open online courses (MOOCs) of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland are attracting a huge number of Indian student lately. It is reportedly told that of the overall 2.3 million participants in the MOOCs, 7 per cent of the participants are Indians, enrolled for learning football and philosophy. MOOCs are online courses primarily dedicated for online audience across the globe. A pre-recorded short videos and lectures are provided for the students on a weekly basis. MOOCs also has online student discussion forums, assignment and homework division, and online exams and quizzes. (India Today)

NCERT designated authority for curriculum under RTE: Govt to HC. The Centre told a bench comprising Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal that National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, formulated by NCERT, has been accepted as the curriculum framework for the purpose of RTE Act, 2009. The government said this in an affidavit in the high court on a plea which has sought a direction to it to provide common syllabus and curriculum to all children aged between 6 -14 years. (Zee News)

IIT JAM 2017 to be held on February 12. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi is all set to conduct the Joint Admission Test (JAM) 2017 on February 12, 2017 (Sunday) in two sessions as computer based test (CBT). The exam is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in order to offer admission to aspirants in MSc and other post-BSc courses. JAM is conducted by participating colleges on a rotational basis. This time IIT Delhi will be conducting the same. (India Today)

Circular regarding selection panel to choose school heads put on hold by CBSE. CBSE has put on hold its circular mandating that selection panels for choosing heads of its affiliated schools will include a person nominated by the CBSE chairperson and a nominee of the state government. Keeping in view the existing provisions in various state legislations on education, the CBSE circular dated December 21, 2016 has been kept in abeyance, restoring thereby the earlier provision of Affiliation Bye-laws in case of recruitment of the head of the school, the CBSE said in a statement today. India to have Learning Outcome Indicator for the first time to rate school children's progress. The HRD Ministry in its earnest bid to codify learning outcomes, through learning curve method especially in the below-matriculation classes, has issued a circular on Monday hence mulling for standardised learning indicators for students studying in between Classes 1 and 8. Learning curve is a globally accepted method to measure or rate the progress of students in academic performances and their skills. (India Today)

Reservations for female students in IITs could soon be a reality. A committee formed to increase the enrolment of girl students to the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has recommended reservation for female students to rectify the problem. Sources said that the committee has suggested creating up to 20% supernumerary seats for female students out of the total number of seats. However, the reservation will be in effect for a period of eight years or till the time the enrolment reaches the 20% mark. (HT)

In a first, IIMA launches 2-year distance learning course. The Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Monday launched a two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (e-PGP) through distance learning using satellite-based education technology. The course, the first by an IIM, will cost Rs 17 lakh and is aimed at working executives and entrepreneurs. (Zee News)
